Dr. Mario Fernández Ruiz, specialist doctor of the Infectious Diseases Unit led by Dr. José María Aguado and attached to the Area of »Infectious Diseases and AIDS» of the Research Institute Hospital 12 de Octubre (i + 12), has received the 2020 ICHS Young Investigator Award awarded by the International Immunocompromised Host Society, a society of great global scientific relevance in the study of infection in immunosuppressed patients.
This award is a recognition of Dr Mario Fernández Ruiz’s scientific career as a young researcher and implicitly also a recognition of the scientific activity of the Infectious Diseases Unit of the Hospital 12 de Octubre (i + 12). The objective of this group is to promote and disseminate scientific, educational and research activities focused on infectious complications that occur in patients undergoing a solid organ transplant, as described on its institutional website.
Dr. Fernández Ruiz a REIPI researcher, is a «Master in Infectious Diseases of the Immunosuppressed Patient» by the Complutense University of Madrid and awarded in 2017 with the Young Investigator Award for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease granted annually by the European Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (ESCMID). He is currently the beneficiary of a contract. «Miguel Servet» from the Carlos III Health Institute and he has recently been elected president of the Transplant Infection Study Group (GESITRA).

El Dr. Mario Fernández Ruiz, médico especialista de la Unidad de Enfermedades Infecciosas que lidera el Dr. José María Aguado y adscrita al Área de “Enfermedades Infecciosas y SIDA” del Instituto de Investigación Hospital 12 de Octubre (i+12), ha recibido el premio 2020 ICHS Young Investigator Award que otorga la International Immunocompromised Host Society, sociedad de gran relevancia científica mundial en el estudio de la infección en los pacientes inmunodeprimidos.
Este premio es un reconocimiento a la carrera científica como investigador joven del Dr. Mario Fernández Ruiz y de forma implícita un reconocimiento también a la actividad científica de la Unidad de Enfermedades Infecciosas del Hospital 12 de Octubre (i+12). Este grupo tiene por objetivo la promoción y difusión de actividades científicas, docentes y de investigación centradas en torno a las complicaciones infecciosas que tienen lugar en los pacientes sometidos a un trasplante de órgano sólido, tal y como se describe en su sitio web institucional.
El Dr. Fernández Ruiz investigador de REIPI, es “Magíster en Enfermedades Infecciosas del Paciente Inmunodeprimido” por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, fue galardonado en 2017 con el Young Investigator Award for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease que concede anualmente la Sociedad Europea de Enfermedades Infecciosas y Microbiología Clínica (ESCMID). En la actualidad es beneficiario de un contrato «Miguel Servet» del Instituto de Salud Carlos III y recientemente ha sido elegido presidente del Grupo de Estudio de Infección en el Trasplante (GESITRA).
